A Fun Beginner Tunisian Crochet Pattern: Cole’s Tunisian Crochet Lanyard

When my fiance asked me to make him a new lanyard after his last one broke, I immediately said yes! One of my favorite things about crocheting is making things that my friends and family will use! I had about three or four different ideas for the type of lanyard I wanted to make for him, but I knew I wanted it to be sturdy, long-lasting, and able to be washed. That’s why I ultimately went for a cotton yarn, in yellow of course, since it’s his favorite color, and settled on a Tunisian stitch pattern.

Tunisian crochet is the closest thing to mimicking knitting that crochet has. The stitches are thicker than normal crochet, which makes the fabric created sturdier than regular crochet stitches. The fabrics created from Tunisian crochet are gorgeous creations that are often mistaken for knitting!

This pattern is narrow enough that if you don’t have any Tunisian crochet hooks, you can just use a longer-necked crochet hook instead! The pattern uses two basic Tunisian stitches, so it is perfect for those who are just learning the style!
