How to Crochet the Griddle Stitch
The griddle stitch is one of my all-time favorite crochet stitches! While it sounds like it will be difficult, it is super simple and provides such a wonderful fabric for your crochet piece!
The stitch itself is actually a combination of two basic crochet stitches: the single crochet and the half double crochet. These two stitches are repeated across the row, forming a wonderful little pebbled texture as it is worked. This stitch is wonderful for scarves, beanies, and even larger projects like tops and blankets! I personally find it to be a meditative stitch to work once I get into a rhythm, and I love to work on projects with it as I am winding down for the night.
Like always, I recommend practicing new stitches with yarn and hooks you are comfortable with, as it will help ensure that your tension stays the same throughout and you can get a real feel for how the stitch or pattern is worked. As always, I will leave my personal recommendations for yarn and hooks to use.

Now let’s get to the stitch pattern!
First, you will want to make sure your rows have an even number of stitches. To start your row, you will want to chain 1. Then in that very first stitch, place a half double crochet.
In the next stitch, place a single crochet.
Alternate between half double crochets and single crochets across the row. If you have an even number of stitches, you will end on a single crochet.
That’s all there is to it! Let me know if you have any questions about this, or if you just want to say hi! Until next time! Happy Crocheting!
