How to Crochet the V-Stitch

One of the most used stitches for me personally is the V-Stitch. It is such a simple stitch, but the simplicity does not take away from the beauty and versatility it creates. If you don’t know how to work this stitch or just need a refresher for it, I’m going to teach you how to make it!

To practice the V-Stitch, I suggest using yarn and a hook you are familiar and comfortable with, as this makes it easier for you since you won’t need to adjust your tension too much. If you are new and don’t know what to use, here are my suggestions!

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn

Clover Amour Hooks—the 5mm size is a good average hook, which will work great with the Red Heart yarn!

This stitch is composed of two basic stitches: the double crochet and the chain stitch. If you don’t know how to do either of those, you can check out two of my previous posts: How to Double Crochet and Learn How to Make a Starting Chain and Single Crochet.

There is also a video tutorial for the V-Stitch on YouTube!

To work a series of V-Stitches, you want to make sure that you have an odd number of stitches.

To get started on your row of V-Stitches, we are going to start by chaining 2 and placing a double crochet in that first stitch. Then, we are going to double crochet, chain 1, and do another double crochet all in the next stitch.

Next, we are going to skip the next stitch, and in the following stitch, double crochet, chain 1, and double crochet all in the same stitch.

Repeat this across, until you have 3 stitches left. When you have 3 stitches left, skip one stitch, V-stitch in the next stitch, and place a double crochet in the last stitch.

For the following rows, to continue the V-Stitch pattern, work each V-Stitch in the chain space between the double crochets.

And there you have it! That’s the V-Stitch! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them below. If you have any suggestions for what tutorial I should do next, I would love to hear it. Happy Crocheting!
