Iris Scarf
I was crocheting for about four years before I started free-handing any patterns. Before that, I was just too scared about completely messing up to even try! However, last year I couldn't find a scarf pattern to make for my aunt that just felt like her, you know? So it was finally time to design my own!
Out of this experience came the Iris Scarf!
A beginner friendly pattern, this scarf uses basic stitches that just provide the perfect backdrop for the simple motif at either end of the scarf.
Here's what you'll need:
• 300-350 yards of Worsted weight yarn
o I used 1 skein Hobbii’s Winter Glow Solid yarn (383 yards) and held it double with their Metallico Fine for a hint of sparkle (you can find it here)
• 5.5 mm crochet hook
• Stitch marker (optional)
• Scissors
• Tapestry Needle
The stitches you'll need to know:
Abbreviations:
• Ch—chain
• Sc—single crochet
• Hdc—half double crochet
• Dc—double crochet
• Sk—skip
Special Stitches
• Iris stitch: 2dc, ch. 1, 2dc in the same stitch
o Also called an open scallop
• V-stitch: dc, ch. 1, dc in the same stitch.
The pattern itself works up super quick, so it's perfect for that quick holiday gift! If you want to lengthen it or shorten it, it's an easy adjustment: just add or subtract any of the griddle stitch repeat rows!
You can follow the pattern on this page, or you can purchase an ad-free version on Ravelry.
